Fun Videos

So yesterday and today we have been playing with the ultrasound machine at work and figured out how to save short video clips to a disc. So I am posting a few clips for fun. This week has been a bit depressing for be because patients (i.e. strangers) have started noticing that I am pregnant. The nice thing about all of this is that I just think that if I am pregnant again with only one, I won't be too huge. But you never know. Other than that, Thank you Davin for the double stroller, we are so excited about it! I just love hand-me-downs! I think my girls had better get used that that now, because that is probably what they will get their whole lives. When I was growing up we were on the hand-me-down list for the ward and got lots of really cute things. We didn't know that everyone didn't do that. It was like Christmas when a bag of clothes was dropped off.

Today we had another doctor's appointment. I guess I need to get used to seeing her frequently. The really great thing was that things are going well enough that I get another month appointment free. Yeah! The best part was when she measured me, I am 16 weeks and measuring as if I am 23 weeks. Yesterday at church someone was trying to tell me how cute it is, but all I was thinking was "Yes, it would be cute it I wasn't only 16 weeks." Whatever.
So I edited down the ultrasound from Friday and am posting just a few minutes of it. For some reason I can only upload one of the videos, so sorry twin A. Also blogger made me compress it way down, so I hope it turns out OK.

The first ultrasound (for real)

So on Friday I had my first REAL ultrasound. Since we are having twins we went to a perinatologist, which was an interesting experience. When I perform this type of ultrasound we just do it in a normal ultrasound room where we scan legs and gall bladders and everything else, so nothing is really special. But they had a really nice setup with a monitor that we could watch mounted on the wall and they made a DVD for us of the whole thing. I decided when I got there not to tell the technician that I do ultrasounds because I didn't want her to get flustered or nervous. Marc thought it was hilarious as I let her scan and acted as if I had no idea what was going on. But after a minute of watching her I was very glad I didn't say anything because the pictures she took were not that good and a couple of them were really weird. I am glad that I can take my own pictures when I want to, and if the babies don't cooperate I can try again later. I did feel a little bad for her because both of their heads were down and pretty low, which made any face pics near impossible. I was looking at them thinking that they looked like they were whispering secrets to each other they were so close. So after the tech did her thing the Perinatologist came in and scanned me also. That was really nice because he talked for a long time about twins and what we would be concerned about and things that are normal. Most of the stuff I knew, but it was good to talk to him also. When I told him that I do ultrasounds he was telling me that they are having a job opening soon and how great it is to work there (i.e. no weekends and no call) and how I should  keep my eye out and apply. I was a little taken aback because I would love to work there, but most places don't recruit pregnant girls. I guess when that is what you do all day, being pregnant isn't such a bad thing there.
Starting tomorrow I will be seeing my doctor every two weeks and will be having ultrasounds pretty regularly. Yeah for being double insured!

Pictures

So I don't know if anyone will appreciate these as much as me. Lauren informed me that she had never heard of an ultrasound being called "adorable" before, but I have seen lots of adorable ultrasounds. This might have something to do with the fact that I know what I am looking at. But these pictures are interesting because I can already tell that they will look different. One totally has Marc's nose and the other is more like mine. It is so fun and I seriously feel for everyone who can't look at their babies all the time. I hope other's can appreciate these as much as I do.

The first one is funny because she had crossed her legs and looks like she's just relaxing.
The second is good for comparison because she has more of the Anderson nose that is long and straight.
The third picture is the one with Marc's nose, notice how it is short and slopes up.
This last picture you can see them both squished together.
I have more, but have a feeling others will not appreciate them so I will refrain, but so fun!

It's a girl...and another girl!

So it was confirmed today. We are having 2 girls. I have been certain that at least one of them would be a girl, but was also thinking one would be a boy. The real downside to having 2 girls is that most of the offerings of clothes and such have been from families with boys (sigh, missing out on free stuff). But we are excited. I was hoping to post pictures today because they are getting so big and are just adorable, but the printer at work was broken, so maybe tomorrow I will be able to. I am sure that Marc's nephew Ryan will be very excited because he has informed us that he wanted us to have a girl, probably to minimize the competition. I think the best thing about 2 girls is that I won't need to buy as many clothes because they can share, at least for now.

The excitement continues

So this was just a weird trip all around and the excitement didn’t cease just because we were coming home. Our original flight left from Maui about an hour after the Inman’s, but since our flights were not coordinated we decided to get there extra early to try and get things straightened out. At the counter it took awhile but we were still 2 hours early for our flight so we were not worried. The Inman’s flight left from the same gate so we just sat with them and downloaded each other’s pictures and such. As their flight was boarding they made an announcement that our flight was delayed and there were extra seats on the current flight if anyone wanted to hop on. We were first in line and were happy since our connector was tight. We tried to fly standby on the Inman’s direct flight home instead of going through LAX, but apparently lots of other people had the same idea because they flat out told us no and we saw at least 12 people trying to do the same thing with no success. So we took our own flight home, a red eye, without much trouble. But Marc, who hadn’t been feeling well for s few days started having a lot of pain and hearing loss in his right ear. I have had difficulty staying hydrated the entire trip and it really started to show (I drank 3 glasses of water to hydrate and kept drinking to catch up and didn’t pee for 7 hours). Not good. The excitement continued when we reached LAX 30 minutes late and they held the flight to SLC for us and the other 26 passengers making the same flight. The gate would have been a LONG walk, so they shuttled us across the tarmac in vans. At this point I was just thinking that there was no way our bags would make it unless they were really good. It turns out they were not really good. Actually we checked 3 bags and Marc’s small carry on that he checked at the last minute got there, but not our big bags. So we do what we are supposed to and go to the baggage service counter where they do not show either of our bags in the system. Apparently no one from Hawaiian Airline bothered to scan ours, or any of the Inman’s bags, so all of the bags are LOST! They have no clue where they are. It appears that it was a miracle that the one bag made it because the only place it was scanned was in Salt Lake. We decided what happened is ever since Aloha Airline went down Hawaiian has been super stressed. But please! It takes 1 second to scan the barcode on the bag. Do your job people! It is especially interesting since we were on a different flight then the Inman’s and checked in a different way (they used the curbside, we went up to the counter), and yet all 5 of our bags our missing. WHATEVER!

So we finally get home, get picked up by Marc’s parents and Marc told me that he had an ear infection and needed to go to the Instacare. Apparently going to the Instacare on early Sunday afternoon is the best time. We got right in and didn’t wait long for the doctor. So Marc told her what had been going on and she took a very brief look in his ear and stepped back and said “Yep, you have an ear infection in the canal and in the drum.” She then proceeded to prescribe a series of antibiotic eardrops and pills. She was also trying to give Marc pain pills and was very surprised that he wasn’t in more pain. I guess that is what happens when you have lots of ear problems. This whole situation was a bit more stressful that Instacare visits of the past because Marc gets sick all the time. I am a bit worried about when the kids come. I can see it now, Marc brings something home, the kids get sick, and they give it back to Marc etc. I just had a vision of how much time we will spend at that Instacare, especially because they are a KidsCare as well. I am probably getting ahead of my self. On that note, I don’t know if it was the environment of the end of the first trimester, but I have started feeling a lot better lately. I only really needed my nausea pills when we were driving a lot and I haven’t taken them for several days. YEAH! Also I have a pregnancy book that my MD gave me and I bought one about twins. Apparently I have had a pretty easy time so far. Besides the fact that I look about 20 weeks pregnant instead of 14, I have not experienced the fatigue that many face. I attribute this to my sleep lab job and erratic sleep schedule. I think I have been tired for so long that I think I don’t even know what it is like to feel normal anymore. It had finally come in handy to feel like crap all the time. I also haven’t had the mood swings that I hear so much about. But I am not a moody person anyway.

I am really hoping to find out what we are having this week. So stand by for more updates.

Hawaii Bliss II

So after several days of high surf warnings and boisterous winds, we finally had a good weather day for the beach. We spent the morning in the water swimming and playing with the boogie board. All of us put on lots of sunscreen, but still got fried. I guess that is what happens when you spend 2 hours in the water. But we had a lot of fun.
The real fun happened when we decided to go to Bubba Gump's for dinner. As we were walking toward the restaurant we noticed lots of immigration police around the street, and when Melanie and I tried to walk past them we were notified to cross the street. We went about our business and sat at our table which was right on the water. We could tell that the waiter was very distracted and that clearly something was happening. Before long we were informed that INS had raided the place, half the kitchen staff was taken away, and they were closing the restaurant. We would still be served, but no one else would be let in. Needless to say our food took FOREVER. But the waiter was very nice and gave us some extra dishes. The staff was all emotional and frazzled. We kept watching the poor manager try and deal with the situation. At the end of the meal we realized that we were some of the last people let in, and therefore some of the last to leave. The best part was that they took off about half of the bill because of the inconvenience. We decided that it was totally worth the wait and excitement to get a cheap dinner. As we were leaving Melanie went up to the manager and told her that we actually had a lovely meal and enjoyed ourselves despite the uproar. She started bawling and mouthed Thank You to Melanie. Poor girl. Alas, we leave tomorrow and do not look forward to getting back to jobs an school and the crazy Utah spring weather.
